Welcome to America’s number one sex podcast Dr. Sex Fairy. I am Dr. Kanwal Bawa, America’s favorite sex doctor and I am here to transform your life. This is going to be a great Friday mini episode of the Bawa Sutra, my version of the Kama Sutra. This is my 69th Dr. Sex Fairy episode, and we are going to discuss the 69 sex position.
This is when the partners perform oral sex on each other simultaneously. 69 can be done in various positions. It is classically thought of as the partners lying facing each other on their side, with their face by their partner's feet. This allows them to access each other’s genitals easily. This can also be done with one partner lying flat on their back and the other on all fours, on top. If you are both in good shape, you can also have one partner standing holding up the other inverted. Don't laugh! This inverted position is actually seen in the carvings on some ancient Indian temples.
The term 69 comes from the French term for this position, soixante-neuf, which literally means 69, and was first documented in the 1700s. This position is called 69 because the partners look like 6 and nine together as they perform oral sex on each other. While we use the French name for it, the French certainly didn’t invent it. There is mention of this position thousands of years ago in the Kama Sutra, in which it is called the crow position.
The Kama Sutra says: “With their bodies in an inverted position, lying face to face on their side, the man places his head on the woman's thigh and the woman does the same to unite the couple. In this position both seize the other sexual organ with their mouth. The boy embraces the vulva while the girl sucks his rod…. Like crows, the man and woman peck each other, seizing each other’s sex with their mouth and experiencing pleasure. They drink each other secretions in the heat of passion.”
Given the fact that most women experience orgasm by getting their clitoris stimulated, this is a great way for her to climax. And every man loves a good blowjob! If your mouth gets tired, you can always give yourself a break and use your hand. You can even use a sex toy to mix things up. A major benefit of this position is that both partners are actively engaged in pleasuring each other, and both receive pleasure themselves. Another great benefit is that it works no matter what your sexual orientation is. Yet another benefit is that even if you are out of shape, the traditional sideways 69 will work great for you.
This position has been the subject of songs like Bryan Adams’ “Summer of 69.” He was asked about it in an interview on The Early Show back in 2008 and he said, “A lot of people think it is about a year but actually it’s more about making love in the summertime. It uses 69 as a sexual reference.”
What can I say? 69 is worth a try! Until next time.
